Speaker: Greg Wiedeman, University at Albany, SUNY.

Email archives remain particularly challenging. One barrier is that there is no single file format than ensures email is stable and is effective for long term preservation. Different types of email formats are useful in different ways, MBOX or EML files preserve email well as data, PDF files preserve emails well as visual documents, and WARC files also show potential to be useful. The Mailbag Project is developing a draft specification and a tool to create and manage packages of email archives using multiple formats. This will help archivists rapidly make email archives stable and ensure they remain useful in the future. This webinar will overview the Mailbag approach to email preservation, provide a project update and outlook, and provide ample time for Q&A.

Archivist Practitioners, Archivist Managers, and/or Records Analysts/Managers.
