Ensuring long-term accessibility and usability of textual records stored as digital images is largely dependent on the design, implementation, and management of the digital imaging system. This document addresses the legal, management, and technical considerations to address when looking to use digital images in archival settings. Management addresses system planning, acquisition, and development; system management; and migrations. Technical considerations include: migration; document preparation; scanning resolution; quality control, image inspection, and verification; location of index databases; defining index requirements; and index data entry.
