Obtaining and transferring born digital records for archival collections is a key step in any digital preservation workflow as it often acts as an opportunity to collect baseline information about the digital objects in our collections. And yet, while the concept of transferring records is simple, its execution often becomes a pain point for institutions.

Join SERI on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 as we try out a new webinar format. This session will start out with a short presentation by the Wisconsin Historical Society on their past and present approaches towards electronic records transfers by exploring what worked with the old system, why it broke down, which methods are currently available, and how they are testing out new approaches. Then, during the bulk of the session, we will encourage a facilitated discussion with attendees to exchange ideas and answer questions such as:

  • What transfer methods are you implementing?
  • Which information is needed for electronic transfers and how do you collect that information?
  • Do your procedures adapt to a variety of donor types? If so, how?
  • What questions or thoughts do you have about electronic records transfers?

By the end of the session, attendees will have knowledge about a variety of approaches for transferring electronic records.
