    Responsibilities
    The Conservator at the Georgia Archives div. of the University System of Georgia oversees the Conservation Lab and collections care for the Georgia Archives and has authority to coordinate work, supervise and train staff, conduct preservation treatments, provide information and guidance, and plan and conduct educational workshops and presentations. The Conservator must plan, perform, and document basic and complex conservation treatments for a broad range of materials including books, manuscripts, maps, prints, drawings and works on paper and make recommendations to public and private agencies as well as Archives patrons; Duties include the coordination of preventative care, including disaster preparedness and response, pest management, and environmental monitoring programs; Assistance in state emergency planning and response, including advising state and local institutions; Maint. Of GEMA ESF-11 designation and participating in statewide initiatives for emergency preparedness; Training of Archives staff in conservation treatments to repair, reformat, and rehouse records; Mgt of preservation grants, including application, funding, staff assignments, and reporting; Direct conservation internship program; Collect and analyze data and recommend best practices for protecting and preserving the collections.

    Required Qualifications
    Requirements: Master's degree in Art Conservation or closely related field, and 5 years' in any occupation in which the required experience can be gained in the complex treatment of book and paper-based collections and must include at least 1 year in a special collections library or archives; at least 1 year in training departmental assistants/staff; and at least three years in creating and presenting conservation/preservation education. Experience may be gained concurrently. Applicants are expected to demonstrate experience with a portfolio of 5 paper treatments (including 1 book), which will be uploaded.

    Proposed Salary
    Salary is $62,000.00 per year.
