Presented by: Adriane Hanson, Head of Digital Stewardship at the University of Georgia
Over time, formats become unusable on current computing platforms. Given the multitude of formats and limited time that most archivists face, how do they decide when it is time to act in order to keep holdings accessible? This presentation shares Hanson's research into resources available for evaluating when file formats are at risk and the workflow she developed for the University of Georgia to analyze the formats in their digital preservation system. She will be expanding on a presentation given last year at Best Practices Exchange (https://bpexchange.files.wordpress.com/2021/05/bpe_2021_slides_hanson.pdf), including lessons learned from a second year of doing this analysis.
Adriane Hanson is Head of Digital Stewardship at the University of Georgia, where she is responsible for leading digital preservation efforts across five collecting units in the Libraries. Prior to starting this role in 2017, she was a processing archivist at multiple institutions. She holds an MSI from the University of Michigan.
