Archives Month 2016 - Open Doors and Skeletons
Sep 16, 2016
Welcome to the first installment of the exciting activities your CoSA colleagues have planned for Archives Month 2016.
Matt Blessing shares with us that Wisconsin is celebrating Archives Month a bit early. The Wisconsin Historical Records Advisory Board (WHRAB) is partnering with Historic Milwaukee, organizers of the ever-popular “Doors Open Milwaukee.”
This weekend event draws more than 30,000 guests to free events organized by 165 venues across Milwaukee. On Saturday, September 17, ten repositories will be showcasing their archival collections, including Marquette University, UW-Milwaukee, and the Wisconsin Black Historical Society.
The Pennsylvania State Archives’ plans for Archives Month involve three events throughout the month with more plans in the works:
October 5: Will have several staff members participating in #AskAnArchivist
October 7: Archivist Aaron McWilliams will be presenting “Getting Started in Family History to coincide with our new Archives Month Poster
We also hope to share and distribute info on Electronic Records Day (Oct 10) through our social media outlets.
Continuing the success of the visit of Aunt Edna last year, Pennsylvania will be featuring what entails when Aunt Edna encourages the family to delve into the family history!
