The State of State Records: A Status Report on State Archives and Records Management Programs in the United States (January 2007)

The report presents a comprehensive overview of state archives and records management (ARM) programs, drawing on the results of the FY2004 and FY2006 CoSA surveys of state archives and records management programs. Profiles of each state ARM program are included. A Blue Ribbon Panel convened in October 2006 to discuss the findings in the above report and make recommendations on how to improve state archives and records management programs.

Report on the Survey of State Historical Records Advisory Boards (November 2006)

The 2006 Survey of State Historical Records Advisory Boards (SHRABs) was a follow-up to a survey conducted in 2004 prior to the introduction of an orientation program for SHRAB members. This report describes the current status of SHRABs in all 50 states and the District of Columbia and offers comparisons of data collected in 2004 and 2006.

FY2004 Survey of State Archives and Records Management Programs

The 2004 survey was designed to assess current conditions in state archives and records programs, measure progress against the results of earlier studies, identify solutions that can be implemented across state lines, and highlight areas of common concern that can and should be addressed collectively.

Data tables for each question from the FY2004 survey are available in Excel. Many are also incorporated in the "The State of the State Records" report, above.
