An initial report summarizing the statistics gathered
during the NFACE Survey of Individual Continuing Education
Needs was prepared by Victoria Irons Walch, NFACE Project Coordinator,
in February 2000. A PDF version
of the statistical summary is also available.
Also available is a PDF document
containing a printout of the comments made by respondents at
the end of the survey form. These add color and dimension
to the numbers in the statistical summary, above.
How the Individual Needs Survey Was Administered
This survey, directed at the people who care for
the nation’s historical records, was intended to help us develop
a better understanding about their continuing education needs and
the best ways to address those needs. A total of 2,050 individuals
responded to the survey which was distributed widely in the summer
and fall of 1999.
A summary report the results of the survey is available
and will be used to help shape an action agenda at the National
Forum on Archival Continuing Education (NFACE) to be held in Decatur,
GA, April 27-29, 2000.
Throughout the late summer and fall 1999, we distributed
the survey at national, regional, and state-level conferences and
focus groups. To reach an even broader audience, we
also provided two ways to complete the survey via the Internet (an
automated form that could be completed online and a
PDF document that could be printed and mailed in). The
deadline for returning the survey was December 15, 1999.
If you would like to see a copy of the survey form we used, it
is available as an Adobe Acrobat PDF document by clicking
