Description activity and access to records

Reference activity

State archives building: construction, capacity, ownership

Issues and initiatives

Each state archives and records program should have received a copy of the survey form, either at the CoSA annual meeting or by email, which that includes comparable data provided to CoSA during our FY2004 survey. A generic copy of the survey form is also available.

Detailed tables of FY2004 data collected during CoSA's comprehensive survey are available for reference.

In 2004, CoSA conducted an in-depth survey of state archives and records programs and the State Historical Records Advisory Boards (SHRAB) in each state and territory. This project builds on previous surveys and reports conducted by COSHRC and other organizations to document current conditions and needs. It will be used to create a system for regularly assessing state archival programs, measuring progress and effectiveness, and articulating a national strategic direction to ensure preservation of and access to our nation's historical records.
