Until the training being developed by the FEMA-funded
Intergovernmental Preparedness
for Essential Records (IPER) project is available in early 2010, state
and local government employees have several alternatives available.
The National
Archives and Records Administration offers courses on Vital
Records and Records Emergency Preparedness
and Response. While these are targeted at federal agencies, state
and local government employees who have taken the courses have found
most of the content to be readily applicable to their programs.
Many state
archives and records management programs also offer records-related
training and advice to state and local agencies. The training
directory provides links to these programs and will be updated
regularly as new offerings are reported.
State and local agencies are also encouraged to contact
their state
archivists to learn more about current offerings and future
plans.
