Anne W. Ackerson to Start as Next CoSA Executive Director in January 2013

Anne W. AckersonFollowing an extensive national search, the Council of State Archivists (CoSA) is pleased to announce the selection of Anne W. Ackerson of Troy, New York, as CoSA’s second executive director. She will begin her tenure with CoSA in January 2013.

At the end of 2012, Victoria Irons Walch will be retiring as CoSA’s Executive Director after more than 20 years of work with the organization. CoSA’s Board of Directors, Executive Transition Committee, and Search Committee undertook a thoughtful and systematic process to assess CoSA’s needs, consult with members and stakeholders, and identify qualified candidates.

Jim Corridan, President of CoSA said, “With the unanimous recommendation of the Search Committee, affirmed by the Board, we are all looking forward to Anne’s leadership as Executive Director. We believe she will build on Vicki Walch’s successes and help CoSA continue to offer outstanding programs for the archival community.”

In a career spanning nearly 35 years, Ackerson has served as executive director of a number of house museums and historical societies throughout New York State. She is currently the director of the Museum Association of New York (MANY) which serves nearly 2,000 historical museums and societies statewide. Recognized nationally for her leadership, Anne’s efforts have concentrated on advocacy, standards and best practices, and on strengthening organizational governance, leadership, funding, and visibility. She has also served for the past dozen years on the New York State Historical Records Advisory Board.
